Job Overview:

Reporting to the Procurement Manager and working closely with the Sales and Development teams and our Asia offices, the Project Buyer is responsible for the purchasing, kitting and assembly of fast turn prototypes designed by the development team that are required to validate their designs. These prototypes always on the critical path meaning the activity is both time and mission critical.
In addition to managing the prototyping phase, during the design validation phase the project buyer will support the process of identifying suppliers to be used in mass production through producing  and issuing RFQ’s/RFI’s/NDA’s (requests for quotation/information and non-disclosure agreements) to a network of new and existing suppliers around the world.
The project buyer is also responsible for conducting both scouting and benchmarking activities with a keen eye on competitive pricing and identifying ‘fit for purpose’ vendors. The role includes responsibility for ensuring that all relevant systems transactions (ERP / MRP) are kept up to date and accurate, along with monitoring deliveries and highlighting constraints to key stakeholders such as sales, development and finance.

Background:
 
  • Is currently part of a large purchasing team and is looking for a new opportunity that offers more autonomy and career potential in a company that has ambitious growth plans.
  • Has ideally worked in a company that supplies electronic hardware products to either Consumers (B2C), Businesses (B2B), or both.
  • Has a minimum of 3 years purchasing experience.
  • Has experience of working on an ERP and/or MRP system and performing all the relevant purchasing system transactions
  • Is responsible for purchasing a range of items in batch quantities (prototypes) and mass production quantities.
  • Has experience of trading with ASIA suppliers either directly or via a local office.
  • Has experience of working with Sales teams in order to understand and act on customer requirements.
  • Has worked with planning teams to assist with the formulation of schedules that maximise on-time delivery performance whilst minimising inventory.
  • Is comfortable working with Development teams on New Product Introductions (NPI).
  • Has interfaced with Finance functions and understands the importance of their priorities.
  • Ideally has a relevant professional qualification in purchasing, procurement or operations, however excellent demonstrable hands-on experience of purchasing will also be sufficient.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
  • Provide full support to the Procurement manager as required
  • Purchasing electronic components, plastic parts, cables, sub-assemblies and printed circuit board assembly services to support the product development team in Modena
  • Manage the purchasing of items for New Product Introductions (NPI) as designs transition from prototypes to mass production
  • Produce, issue and track supplier non-disclosure agreements (NDA’s), requests for quotation (RFQ) and requests for information (RFI)
  • Arrange supplier samples based on requests from the development team (both off-the-shelf products and prototypes).
  • Supplier scouting and benchmarking activities
  • Cost of goods management (maintaining spreadsheets that capture the cost of goods sold)
  • Purchase of components in collaboration with Eggtronic China and Taiwan teams
  • Manage ongoing relationships with existing suppliers and develop relationships with new suppliers
  • Develop performance measures (KPI’s / PI’s) that accurately depict purchasing performance and help to elevate performance over time.
  • Manage system transactions in relation to the purchasing process to ensure that system data is always up to date and accurate.
  • Work closely with Operations, Sales, Development and Finance teams to ensure that their needs are met and they are kept well informed.
  • Keep records of purchasing activities in order to track progress and learn
  • Input to the annual budgeting process
